There are hundreds of ingredients that can go into a successful website, but some are more important than other. If you read books like Super Affiliates Confessions you can spot trends - things that successful webmasters do and the tools they all seem to use. Likewise you can read stories of failed projects. There's no shortage of frustrated webmasters crying out "what have I done wrong?" Putting years of experience together and coming up with only three keys is a gross over simplification, of course there's more to it than this, but here's three keys that REALLY matter:
- Keyword Research. You can have a fantastic site about goldfish racing with thousands of links to it and yet not make any money. Why? Because nobody's interested in goldfish racing! That's an obvious example. You can read some less obvious examples and more advice on the choosing a profitable niche page.
- Automation. All super affiliates use clever scripts and software to automate boring daily tasks. Read these time saving tips for webmasters.
- Be Unique. Some people seem to make piles of cash by putting hundreds of sites online full of recycled articles, news headlines and endless lists of links. As the search engines improve their duplicate content filters all these sites are disappearing. It's short term cash, here today and gone tomorrow. Others follow the latest craze, building this 'new' kind of site or making pages about a particular topic because everyone else is. NO! If everyone's doing it then you have a huge amount of competition. Instead, if you can produce something original, unique and useful your income will increase over time and you wont be competing against everyone else. Think big. Use software tools and automation wherever possible to help you build and maintain your original and unique creations.
